Hiking / Walking

Walking along Bisse de Saxon gives you a splendid view of Isérables. Among the other favoured hikes are:

  • Crête du Movrin ~ to the right around 500m after the bisse guardians hut
  • Pierre Avoi ~ ladder and chains to the summit
  • Sentier du Fou – Chassoure ~ tiny valley is still wild and unspoilt

Sentier du Lac des Vaux starts with a relaxed ride in the télécabine to the top of Savoleyres. The route then winds its way along Le Creblet to emerge onto the Lac des Vaux at an altitude of 2,500m.

Sentier des Sens is a trail to delight the senses encouraging you to discover a world that is often passed but rarely encountered. Dozens of different plants and insects, shy chamois deer, nutcracker birds and black grouse are just some of the sights to be experienced. The starting point of the Sentier des Sens is the Maison de la Forêt, an exhibition area dedicated to the forest. Its café is open daily June through September from 9am to 5pm.

Mountain Biking

The area has 400km of bike trails ranging in difficulty and style from easier trails lasting around 40minutes to an hour, free riding and cross country, to serious downhill tracks dropping 700m in altitude over 6km of terrain.

For a full day challenge then you may wish to try the Tour du Mont Fort. If you take on the pro rider version, for serious fitness enthusiasts, then it will take around 8 hours, excluding uplifts or well deserved breaks, to cover the 60kms of 2,263m ascent and 3,112m descent. For those who prefer to have time to appreciate the wonderful landscape (and breathe) then there is also an easy rider alternative.
